George Engelhard, age 83, of Milford, CT, has passed away on Friday March 19, 2010, peacefully at home. George was born on August 22, 1926 in Bridgeport, to the late William and Mildred Hardy Engelhard. George left school early to serve his country as a Merchant Marine during World War II. He has been honored for serving onboard a Liberty ship carrying supplies, including food and armored vehicles, across both the Atlantic and the Pacific Oceans. He loved being at sea and has had many adventures sailing around the world twice, Afterwards; George worked as a delivery man at Roessler’s Meat Products until they closed. He finished his career delivering bread for both Bambi and Sunbeam. George married his beloved late wife Hazel Louis Benway and had three children. He is survived by his two sons George and Gary Engelhard and his daughter Gwen Duskin, as well as his daughter-in-laws Judy and Diane Engelhard, and son –in-law William Duskin. He was the
beloved grandfather to William, Nicholas and Kevin Duskin, his wife Becky, as well as Emily and David Engelhard. George was a loving brother and leaves behind his sisters Ruth Engelhard, Louise Hanlon and Millie Badick, brother-in-laws Charlie Hanlon, Richard Badick, John Stott, George Benway and sister-in-law Gloria Engelhard. He was also a beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews. Besides his wife, George is predeceased by several brothers & sisters. Services to be held Tuesday, March 23, at the Smith & Sefcik Funeral Home, located at 135 Broad St. Milford, between the hours of 5 and 8 pm.
