Nancy Wadhams Smith Valley, age 87, passed away on November 1, 2018. Born January 8, 1931 to the late Eugene and Jessie Wadhams, she was born and raised in Milford, Connecticut, a 1948 graduate of Milford High School.
Nancy was always a caregiver and loved her family and friends. Besides raising 4 children, she had owned a yarn shop in downtown Milford and ran a daycare center at her home and was affectionately known as Gramma Nancy to her many surrogate grandchildren. She played baseball with her children and their neighborhood friends, was a Cub Scout denmother, loved the outdoors, snowmobiling, playing any card game and dominoes and happily hosted many holidays and family events at her home. She was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan.
She is predeceased by two husbands, her High School sweetheart Daniel W. Smith and later Ronald K. Valley, both of Milford. She resided in Milford until 1987 when she moved to Brimfield and Monson Massachusetts, returning to Connecticut in 2014, where she has been a resident of the Curtis Home in Meriden until her passing.
She is survived by her children Cathiann Bellard (Robert) of Wallingford, Daniel Smith of Monson, MA, Mary Jane Smith of Waterbury and Keith Valley (Karen) of Monson MA, grandchildren; Wendy, Matthew, Coty, Sean, Stephen, James, Julia, Brandon and Chantell and nine great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Jesse Wadhams (Janet) of Monson and sister Patricia Hunter (Mert) of Palmer, Mass and numerous nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held Saturday, November 10, 2018 from 1pm to 5pm at Smith Funeral Home, 135 N. Broad St., Milford, CT. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
