Lawrence “Bob” Poppa Jr, age 74, of Milford passed away peacefully on Monday, April 16, 2018 in Connecticut Hospice surrounded by his loving family. He was born on September 9, 1943 in Bridgeport to the late Lawrence and Florence (Kiley)Poppa Sr. He proudly served in the US Army during the Vietnam War. Before retiring, he worked at Sikorsky Aircraft for 28 years. He was a Teamsters Union Shop Steward for many of those years. He will be remembered for his love and dedication to his family, his enthusiasm for hunting, tennis, card games and for being an avid lifelong New England Patriots fan. His selfless and easy going nature made him a friend to everyone who got to know him. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Sharon Poppa, his daughter Kristy Nicoletti and her husband Jay, his son Jason Poppa and his wife Margaret, brother Francis Poppa, sister Ann Marie Jordon, sisters-in-law Barbara Poppa and Mary Anne Poppa, brother-in-law Wayne Brown and his wife Chris, and many much-loved and cherished nieces, nephews and friends. Calling hours are Monday, April 23, 2018 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm in the Smith Funeral Home, 135 N. Broad St., Milford. A prayer service will follow the visitation at 7:00pm in the funeral home with Deacon Sennett. Interment will be private.
