Ellen Ann Zavatkay, age 79 of St. Petersburg, FL, previously of Milford, passed away January 16, 2018 at Jacaranda Manor of St. Petersburg, FL. Ellen was born in New Haven, December 27, 1938, daughter of the late Harold E. and Mary Margaret Sweeney Zavatkay. During her life, she worked in the health care industry for St. Raphael’s Hospital of New Haven for many years until retiring to Myrtle Beach, SC. She was a devout Catholic and was a longtime parishioner of St. Mary Church of Milford and was a member of the Nocturnal Adoration Society and made rosaries with the Catholic Rosary Group at Jacaranda Manor. She is survived by her brother Michael J. Zavatkay and his wife Linda Weber-Zavatkay of West Haven, her niece Katie Breunig of Shelton, her nephews Harold (Skip) Breunig and his wife Roseanne of Milford and Albert (Chuck) Breunig and his wife Aimee of Myrtle Beach, SC, her great niece Amy Margaret Breunig, RN, BSN of Tampa, FL, and her great nephew Joseph of Milford. She is also survived by the Wypychoski family, her extended family. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her sister Elizabeth Zavatkay Wypychoski, and her niece Bridget Rogan Breunig-Sheahan and her husband John. A Memorial Mass will be held Saturday January 27th, 2018 at 10:30 AM at St. Mary Church, Milford. Interment will be held in the family plot at St. Lawrence Cemetery in West Haven in the spring at a date to be announced. The Smith Funeral Home, 135 N. Broad St., Milford is handling arrangements.
