Miriam Treat Carta, age 84, of Milford, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, January 2. 2020 after a long illness, surrounded by the love of her daughters. She was born on November 24, 1935 in Stamford, Connecticut to the late Sgt./Det. John F. and Rose Petersen Treat. She graduated from Stamford High School in 1953 and was employed as a secretary for the Stamford Board of Education, Rippowam and Stamford High Schools until her retirement. She was an avid Yankee fan and enjoyed watching tennis, ice skating but mostly spending quality time with her loved ones. She was a devout Catholic and never missed church on Sunday or any Holy Days until she became bed bound late in her illness. Miriam was known for her kindness, compassion, wisdom and always putting her loved ones before herself, especially for her beloved daughters whom she took great pride in. She is survived by her dedicated daughters Kelley Carta (Mollie Gross) of Milford and Kim Carta Becker (Richard) of Stratford, sister Rosemary Treat Walsh of Stamford, her in-laws Grace and Frank Siverstris, Jean and Robert Fuda, Helen and Frank Migliaccio, Judi Carta, Lenore Carta, several cousins, numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she is predeceased by her loving husband Santo S. Carta, brother John J. Treat, in-laws John S. and Philomena Uva Carta, brothers-in-law Joseph Walsh, Patsy Carta and Anthony Carta and her great Aunt Henora “Nonie” and her husband James Daley. Family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, January 7, 2020 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm at the Smith Funeral Home, 135 Broad St., Milford. A funeral service will be held at 5:00pm on Tuesday in the funeral home during the visitation. Interment will be private. A Mass of Christian Burial, to celebrate her life, will be announced and held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her honor to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN. 38105. Her family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Domenic Casablanca for his dedication to her care for many years.
