John Boboc (Pop), age 96 of Branford, beloved husband of the late Bernadette Lurix Boboc, passed away peacefully on October 16, 2018 at Connecticut Hospice, Branford. Pop was born in Romania, June 6, 1922, son of the late Niculae and Catinca Benica Boboc. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army, 1st Infantry division, during WWII and fought in many battles, including landing on Omaha Beach during the Invasion of Normandy on his 22nd birthday. After his military service, he worked for Southern New England Telephone Company for 40 years until his retirement. He was a 32nd Degree Mason at St. John’s Lodge #3, a member of the Pyramid Shriners #9 of Stratford, and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Pop is survived by his daughter Judy Tupy of Branford, his son John W. Boboc and his partner Mary Downs of Canton, CT, four grandchildren, Sandra O’Hare of Branford, Lee Letourneau and his wife Michelle of West Haven, Tara Grey and her husband Michael of Shelton, and Tanya Gianini and her husband Daniel of Milford, and Tara and Tanya's mother Patricia Boboc of Milford, six great-grandchildren, his brother Alex Boboc of Westport, his sister Balasa Norko of Stratford, and several nieces and nephews. Besides his beloved wife Bernadette and his parents, Pop was predeceased by his brothers Nick and Gregory Boboc. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 20, 2018 from 5pm to 7pm at Smith Funeral Home, 135 N. Broad St., Milford. Services will follow at 7pm followed by Full Military Honors. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Connecticut Hospice, 100 Double Beach Rd., Branford, CT 06405.
