Obituary for Michael A. Kopchak

Michael Andrew Kopchak, age 76, of Milford, passed away on Friday, February 9, 2018 in his home. He was born on January 9, 1942 in Bridgeport to the late Andrew and Mildred Morgan Kopchak. Michael served proudly in the US Army during the Vietnam War. Before retiring, he was employed as a dye specialist for Ross & Roberts. He will be remembered as a devoted father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother, along with his love for bowling, the NY Giants and cooking. Mr. Kopchak is survived by his son Joseph Kopchak of Bristol, daughters Susan Vontell (Gary) of Bristol and Sandra Mahoney (John) of Richland, NY, grandchildren Christopher Kopchak (Savannah), Christina Vontell and Thomas Vontell, great grandchildren Alanna and Oona Kopchak, brothers Robert Kopchak (Linda), Alan Kopchank (Marilyn), Andrew Kopchak (Carlene) and Thomas Kopchak (Lynn), sisters Dorothy Zargo, Rita Gleason, Marilyn Dennis, Elaine Haslob (Bob), Catherine Kopchak, and Margaret Kopchak, his former wife Kathleen Smith, his brother-in-law Alan Sauer, and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters Jean Goodwin and Ann Sauer. Calling hours are Friday February 16 from 4pm to 6pm at Smith Funeral Home, 135 N. Broad St., Milford. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to Pediatric Cancer, c/o Connecticut Children’s Hospital, 282 Washington St., Hartford, CT 06106 or to Swim Across the Sound, c/o St. Vincent’s Medical Center Foundation, 2800 Main St., Bridgeport, CT 06606.
